Puerto
Aventuras diving has excellent beach diving and something for everyone as the dives range from
shallow reefs to deep wall and canyon dives which are all accesible
within very short boat rides.
The
water is crystal clear and teeming with marine life.
Close to shore the reef drops to 20 feet/6 meters leading to
a long sand patch at about 40 feet/12 meters which eventually
runs into a pristine reef with a depth of 40-70 feet/12-21 meters.
Dive operators in Puerto Aventuras offer outings to he famous
Tortugas Reef where divers regularly encounter turtles,
barracudas and (depending on the season) schools
of giant tarpon.
Right
in Puerto Aventuras you can dive the Cenotes which
have the reputation of being one the worlds finest fresh water
caverns can be visited. In the jungle there is crystal clear
water (visibility above 150 feet/45 meters) and incredible limestone
formations - all immersed in a magical play of sunlight. The
Cenotes are large and cathedral like.
There is Incredible coral formation, very good visibility and
lots of fish at the south end of the island where divers can
dive the the famous Palancar, Santa Rosa, Paraiso or Las Palmas
reefs.
Not to
miss is the whale shark outing organised by
dive operators from Puerto Aventuras to snorkel with the The
Whale Shark, the largest fish in the sea. The whale
sharks come to Holbox Island off the Yucatan coast
where the Gulf of Mexico waters and the waters of the Caribbean
Sea merge. This nutrient rich (plankton packed) area is where
Whale Sharks come to feed in the months of
July and August. This “plankton bloom” provides the environment
for Holbox to have the highest concentration of whale sharks
in the world. This is really an extaordinary experience not
to miss.
