Dive knife
Dive knives are useful tools divers can carry to slice or saw things under water such as fishing lines or nets. They designated as weapons!
Most knifes are made of stainless steel, but even this material rusts, particularly under the influence of salt water. There are titanium knifes on the market as well, they are resistant to rust, but also more expensive. Knifes come in a range of different models and sizes. The larger ones often provide a metal handle butt end, which can be used as a hammer. The blades can have serrated or straight edges, some knives offer both. As they are not used to stab, they don’t need pointed tips, some knifes have tips like screwdrivers, what might be useful as well.
Important requirements of dive knives are:
- They have to have a sheath which holds the knife securely and ensures that it cannot fall out by accident, but it must allow to release and secure it easily with one hand. The sheath is fastened with straps on the leg or the BCD.
- They should have a safe hilt guard between handle and blade to avoid injuries while using it.
Meanwhile a lot of divers use special dive shears instead of knives because they are safer to use.
